Tips to Maintain Dining Table at your Home

Dining room is the one place where you spend quality time with your family and friends when you gather to eat. You can enhance the look of your dining area by selecting a dining set of your choice and preference. Special care maintenance is required to retain its fresh new look for a long time.

Over a period of time, any table will lose its shine and starts looking dull. Food remnants and over usage may make your dining table to look unattractive. But you can retain its glossy finish longer by using proper cleaning techniques. The same cleaning technique cannot be used for all types of table sets.

Glass Dining Tables

A glass table adds style and elegance to any dining area. But it is very delicate and prone to scratches. Even a minute scratch can mar the overall look of the table. Maintaining a glass table requires extra care. You can clean it with plain water using paper towel, glass cleaner, or a cloth. A lint-free cloth and soap water are also ideal for removing dirt, food particles and other substances off the table.

Stuck food particles and fingerprints are common things that spoil the beauty of your dining furniture. Scrubbing the table surface using unsuitable, rough or hard material might cause scratches. Clean it using dilute abrasive cleaners specifically made for glass tables. You can also prepare home-made cleaning solution by mixing one cup of water with one cup rubbing alcohol and one tablespoon vinegar. Wipe the table with this mix to bring the shine back.

Wood Dining Tables

Cleaning a wooden dining table needs an entirely different approach from cleaning a glass one. You can clean it with a wood cleaner or a wood conditioner using a clean cloth. Doing it twice a year will help your dining table retain its glossy finish for long. The use of wood conditioner should be limited to twice a year, while it is important to dust the dining table once a week. You can keep your furniture looking new and shiny all the time with a good furniture polish.
