Kitchen remodeling Ideas

Functionality and aesthetics are the two main objectives of any kitchen remodeling plan. A kitchen must provide an efficient working place, even while it looks good.

Most kitchen designs in vogue for the last few decades have been based on three standard layouts: the U-shaped kitchen, the L-shaped kitchen and the galley kitchen. All of them make use of the classic work-triangle concept that basically positions the three major kitchen components (refrigerator, stove, and sink) in a triangular pattern.

With changing lifestyle and man-woman roles, whereby both wife and husband share home responsibilities, multiple work centers or work stations within the kitchen are gaining popularity in order to allow more than one person to work efficiently without getting in anyone else's way.

Adding an island is one of the most common ways to have multiple work centers into a kitchen. An island creates two to four small work stations along the perimeter of a kitchen. These stations can become major work centers if a second sink is added.

Placing gadgets and appliances in the kitchen in such a way that they do not obstruct movement is important while preparing remodeling plans. Selecting the cabinetry that best suits your needs and budget, determining whether re-facing or replacing will be your best option would be crucial factors.

The remodeling plan will have to also include scope for new sinks and plumbing, dishwashers, and ovens, ranges, and built-in microwaves. One has to also examine if your exhaust is in the right place and works more efficiently.

You also need to explore if your new kitchen can be remodeled around your existing floor plan or the space needs to be increased to accommodate your appliances and gadgets. Your new kitchen floor needs to be fashioned around the uses, sizes, and footprints of your appliances.

A well-planned and executed kitchen remodeling project can make a significant difference, both in the livability of your home, and in its value -     Ken Marlborough

Structural changes are completely unnecessary, especially when you are working within a budget.

It is easy to get carried away on details and forget about the core of your kitchen, the plumbing and electrical areas. Make sure that you give attention to these all important areas, because without them, a beautiful kitchen means nothing! Be sure that any leaky water pipes or faulty wiring is taken care of before you do anything else.

After you have set the budget and made sure the vital areas of your kitchen, like the plumbing and the electric work are secure, you can start to think about the appearance of you kitchen. Surfaces, such as your counter tops, your cabinetry, flooring and walls are all easy ways to make a huge difference in your kitchen makeover. Your options are only limited by your budget and your imagination. Remember, you don't have to sacrifice great style and functionality just because you have a budget. There are awesome alternative ideas for your kitchen that DON'T include expensive marble and granite or imported Italian tiles. Know the Benefits of Soapstone Countertops

You have many different options as you choose new features for a kitchen. Soapstone countertops are one material that many homeowners find appealing. Learn about the many benefits associated with this natural stone to make an informed decision about interior design and remodeling.

Unsurpassed Beauty

When you install soapstone countertops in your home, you have the assurance of knowing that no one else in the world will have exactly the same slab as you have. Colors vary greatly, and it's likely that the piece you receive will have intricate and distinctive veining throughout the stone. If you like the piece in its original state, you need do nothing to it. However, if you prefer it to have a richer hue, you can apply mineral oil to the surface, and you also have various textures from which to choose. You can select a highly polished surface or one with a more rustic, rougher feel.

Durability

The durability of soapstone countertops is unparalleled. Heat is no problem with this material, so cooks can pull a hot pan from the stove or oven and place it directly onto the surface without worry of damage. Spills are also a non-issue with this surface because permanent stains will not occur. Many homeowners are pleasantly surprised at the long-term durability of this material. In fact, it might last for generations, maintaining its beauty and vibrancy. Superficial scratches could occur over the years, and if you leave them, they will become a natural part of the patina of the aged counter.

Strength

The strength and density of this material prevent the absorption of any liquids. Tomato sauce, red wine, and grape juice are no match for soapstone countertops. Even the most acidic liquids will clean up effortlessly. Furthermore, you will never have to perform maintenance to keep up the non-porous properties of the material. Other countertops require the repeated application of sealants, but soapstone countertops are maintenance-free. The only step you might perform is applying mineral oil if you choose.

Environmentally Sound

Quarrying this material is a simple process, with custom cutting and cleaning being the only steps necessary to prepare it for installation. This natural material is completely recyclable. Homeowners can also enjoy the fact that this choice is free of potentially harmful toxic chemicals and sealants.

Affordable

The cost of this surface is comparable to other natural stones. However, you can save significantly with this choice because of the simple installation involved. Instead of paying for expert installation, many homeowners can easily install it themselves.

Return on Investment

This type of counter will produce a sizable return on investment. When the time comes to sell a home, many homeowners enjoy a return on investment due to the natural beauty it adds to a kitchen.

How to Choose perfect Flooring for your Kitchen?

Are you in the midst of planning a kitchen renovation? You have probably spent countless hours looking at cabinetry and countertops. You have considered the options for gourmet or commercial-grade appliances. You probably have selected a stylish, but functional sink. But have you spent time considering what kind of flooring you will put in your kitchen?

Often, kitchen flooring is an afterthought in the kitchen renovation or designing process. Selecting the right floor for your kitchen is important because it is often the flooring that makes or breaks a kitchen style. Certain types of flooring are comfortable to stand on for a long time, and others are easy to clean. Durability and overall cost of kitchen flooring does vary. So, you do not want to make a last minute selection that was not properly considered, leading to busted budgets, clashing of styles, hard to clean flooring, or a kitchen floor that cannot stand up to heavy foot traffic.

A kitchen is often the centerpiece of the home, where family and friends spend most of their time together. So you want it to look fantastic, remain functional and be easy to clean. You need to consider the following factors when selecting a kitchen floor. What flooring makes sense in a busy and messy kitchen? What flooring is comfortable to stand on during long cooking sessions? How much will the flooring materials and installation cost? What floors are durable and easy to clean?

First, a quick overview of kitchen flooring material options:

Engineered Wood - This engineered wood core with a solid hardwood or laminate veneer is a popular option for the busy, but stylish kitchen. Engineered wood is designed to resist moisture and remain durable for decades.

Hardwood - The choice for pure style and ambiance. Hardwood floors are traditional, durable and available in an array of hardwood choices and stains.

Travertine - A beautiful option for a sense of opulence. Polished travertine is easy to care for, extremely durable and stain resistant.

Bamboo - This is a renewable wood that has a beautiful appearance, but durable and comfortable to stand on.

Vinyl - A low cost and durable material that has remained popular for kitchen flooring. The classic checkerboard pattern is undergoing resurgence in many gourmet kitchens.

Cork - This is a sustainable, natural, quiet, durable and comfortable option that looks stunning in the kitchen. Cork flooring costs the same as hardwood, but cork trees grow to maturity in under ten years, while hardwood trees can take decades to over half a century to reach maturity.

Linoleum - A flooring product made from linseed oil, cork, limestone and wood pulp, this is a green option that is anti-bacterial and sustainable. It is available in any color, pattern, or design that can be imagined.

Tile - A classic choice for a kitchen that sees a lot of traffic but is also a showpiece. Durable, stain resistant, and easy to clean, tile floors can also be heated for year-round comfort.

Other Flooring Materials - A homeowner has so many options to choose from that can truly make a statement in a kitchen. From concrete, brick, flagstone, painted floors to reclaimed materials, the possibilities are endless.

Major Considerations in Choosing a Kitchen Floor Material - The 3 "C's:"

Cleaning: Not all flooring materials are easy to clean. While hardwood floors are stained and sealed, they also expand and contract with the weather, which creates cracks in the seals where liquids can penetrate into the grain and cause warping and staining. Floors such as tile, flagstone, brick, travertine, and cork need to be treated and sealed for water resistance. Also consider that food, dirt and other foreign material will pack into porous materials.

Comfort: Different kitchen floors have different levels of comfort. The king of comfort is the supple and pliable cork, but a brick, tile or stone floor might be hard on the feet and joints of many people after prolonged standing.

Cost: This is often the point that makes or breaks a kitchen floor. Flooring is sold by the square foot, which requires accurate measurement plus a waste factor of typically 10%. Most installers will require a waste factor or they will not take the job without additional fees. Removal and disposal of old floors needs to be considered. Installation will require delivery fees, underlayment and other squeak reducing materials, options such as heat elements, and labor. It is wise to contact competent flooring contractors that will give estimates of costs before proceeding with a project.Taylor Ronald

Kitchen Tile Cleaning Tips From The Pros

There is nothing quite like a shiny, spotless kitchen floor. It lets everyone know you take pride in your home. That's because tile floors are notoriously hard to keep clean. Not only do you have to mop and dry them, but you also have to clean the grout between the tiles, which often acts as a magnet for stains. However, there are effective tile cleaning tips professional cleaners employ on tough stains.

Common Culprits

No matter how careful you and your family members are, the kitchen is a high traffic area, and people are bound to have accidents. That is why the most frequent tile floor offenders are food and dirt stains. These spots are particularly stubborn because they can easily get ground into the grout, making them difficult to get out.

Where to Start?

The general rule of thumb for tile cleaning is to begin with the simplest, least acidic solution and move on to stronger cleaners if the surface is still dirty.

Probably the simplest and cheapest cleaning solutions you can find are vinegar and baking soda. When using vinegar, make sure you dilute it with water or the solution will be too strong. You can also make a paste out of baking soda by adding a few teaspoons of warm water. Then you dab or pour either solution directly onto the grout and scrub vigorously with a stiff brush. It is also recommended that you scrub in small circles, rather than up and down, because circular motions remove more dirt and debris from the surface. Afterward, rinse the area well and use a mop or paper towel to clean up.

Aggressive Action

If the grout is not thoroughly clean, it is time to move on to everyday household cleaners you can find at your local supermarket. These solutions are a bit harsher than vinegar or baking soda, so they're ordinarily a bit more effective on stubborn stains. Simply read and follow the specific directions on the bottle and make sure you rinse well and clean up afterward.

If the area still isn't clean, first try a commercial tile and grout cleaner. These solutions are sold at most cleaning product stores and some supermarkets. However, make sure you find a product that is pH balanced, so the chemicals will not damage the grout with repeated use. The best way to use these cleaners is to spray them on and let the solution sit for a minute or two before you start scrubbing.

You can also try heavy-duty products like oxygen bleach powder or chlorine bleach. However, be careful with these cleaners. They are incredibly powerful and will need to be diluted with water before use. If you have colored or stained grout, you cannot use bleach because it will change the color.

These products are only available at hardware or janitorial supply stores and should be used sparingly after all other options have been exhausted. It is for this reason that we strongly recommend hiring a professional cleaning service when you require commercial-grade tile cleaning products. Antoinette Ayana

Excellent tips To Make Your Kitchen Look Bigger

Designing your kitchen can be a very stressful experience. You will want to get it right the first time as any mistakes could be very expensive to rectify later. Therefore, you should take your time and make sure that you think everything through before you make any final decisions.

If you have a small kitchen and you are struggling to make everything fit without it looking cramped then you have come to the right place. The aim of this article is to show you how to use the space that you have and to give your kitchen illusion of looking bigger, by using pendant lights.

Storage will be your main issue if you have a small kitchen. If you install regular cupboards, the room will start to look smaller and smaller. This is because standard kitchen cupboards can be very deep.

Therefore, the trick is to build upwards instead of outwards. You should have your cupboards designed to be tall, and not deep. With a tall design, you will be able to store the same amount of items, but the shelves will be a lot smaller in width. Having this style of cupboards means that your kitchen will look a lot bigger.

Many people with small kitchens will think that it will save space if they install spotlights in the ceiling to make the room look bigger. Whilst this is not necessarily a false assumption, pendant lighting will give you the same effect and they are a lot more fashionable.

You can also install this style of light close to the ceiling so that the light cover does not take up a lot of space. You could look into having this style of light with a thin neck and a small shade, to keep everything within the design element of long and thin.

One of the benefits of these lights is that they will fit into a retro styled kitchen, as well as a more contemporary kitchen. This is because there are different choices when it comes to the style of light shade. Furthermore, if you change the design of the kitchen at a later date, all you have to do is change the light fixture; you don't have to change the light. This means that your pendant lighting can last a long time and it will save you money in the long run.

If you have decided to have a dining table in your kitchen, then you should look into collapsible tables so that you can save room when you are not using it. Some tables will be extendable so that you can make the table bigger when you have guests.

Another benefit of this style of light is that they can be used as a feature piece to highlight one element of the kitchen, conjunction with other styles of light. Therefore, it is a good idea to use the light to highlight the kitchen table. This means that there will be a romantic element to the design of the kitchen because you don't have to put all the lights on when you are eating at the table.

If you are not sure which style of light will complete your kitchen, you can look on social media, where there will be images of different kitchen designs. They will illustrate different lights and this will help you to choose the one for you.

If you don't have access to social media, you can contact a specialist light store and they will be able to give you advice. Any good light store will be able to recommend you on your lighting choice.Sean David Young

Make your Small Kitchen Appear Larger - 5 Ways

Incorporate Open Shelving

Break tradition by removing your full blocks of cabinets. Replace them with an open shelving scheme that allows your eyes to travel to the wall instead of the front of a cabinet.

There is one sticking point with open shelves that does not always make them the best choice for homeowners. You have to cut back on the clutter-open shelves have to look open. So you need to choose very carefully what you can store there.

Open shelves can also be a design feature for your kitchen. This can make a transition between a traditional kitchen to a transitional or contemporary kitchen.

Use Glass Cabinet Doors

If you do not want to lose your cabinets altogether, consider switching out the full doors for glass-front doors. These also draw the eye back to the wall, adding depth to your room. As you do not have to use glass-front cabinet doors on every cabinet, you get to store a larger number of items. You still need to consider the amount of clutter in cabinets when using a glass door.

Embrace White

White is the primary color kitchen designers use to open up a small kitchen. White reflects light, which makes the walls and ceiling look farther away than they actually are. If you aren't the biggest fan of white, choose lighter colors that make your space feel brighter and bigger.

Eliminate Clutter

All too often, kitchen counter tops become the go-to storage spot for small appliances, utensils, spices and more. Just as you want your open shelving or glass-front cabinets to look clean, you also want to keep your counters clear. This means finding a home for all of your kitchen goods, and removing non-kitchen clutter altogether. (Note: custom cabinets for your kitchen can solve many of your storage woes!)

Incorporate Smaller Furniture Items

We all love the added storage and workspace that an island can offer any size kitchen. Instead of building a stationary island, however, consider instead adding in a small movable island for workspace that can tuck away nicely when not in use.Jenn Newville

Great Tips To Effectively Clean Your Refrigerator

Yes, I know it can be a big chore. If you are like me, then you will think of many reasons why you can put off the dreaded task of cleaning your refrigerator. However, boring as it can be, it is a vital and necessary task, as bacteria and germs breed like crazy in dirty environments, and the refrigerator is no exception if you don't keep it clean. With that in mind I have written out some good and effective tips to help make the task a little easier.

First, turn off the fridge.

Obviously, cleaning is easier if food stocks are low, so clear everything out and pay attention to perishable foods, put them in a cool bag if possible.

Wash in warm soapy water, use washing-up liquid but try and avoid strong fragrances. Rinse off well and let it dry out. I actually use bicarbonate of soda..it has no odor and is very effective.

Wash all the interior sides, top and bottom as well as the door panel.

Use a damp cloth or toothbrush to wipe or gently brush the door seals, being extra careful not to damage them. Strong smelling foods can be sealed to prevent any unpleasant smells.

Finally, every few months, pull out the refrigerator and wipe down the sides that you don't normally see. Vacuum the condenser coil on the back with the soft brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner. Removal of this dust will enable the coils to function more efficiently. Oh, and remember to clean the floor underneath while you are there.

Following these simple and easy tips, your refrigerator cleaning task will be less painful and more effective-

Just 5 Simple tips to make your Kitchen always clean

The kitchen is the most used area in the house. It can become very messy if cleaning and maintenance is not done on a regular basis. This is the area where maximum growth of harmful micro organisms takes place.

These simple tips will guide you to a cleaner, hygienic and healthy kitchen.

Clean the dishes quickly after use

Sounds simple and logical but not done regularly by most of the people. Don't let stacks of dirty dishes pile up. Dishes left unclean for longer periods will harvest bacteria along with giving you an unpleasant odor. Further these will be difficult to clean later on. Keep your sink empty. Keep cleaning along with cooking. Bigger utensils can be cleaned after cooking. But important thing is that don't leave those for the next day.

Keep the countertops clean

First of all don't keep too many things on the countertop. Keep it uncluttered and keep cleaning as you go along using it. This way it will be easier to use, giving you more space for cooking along with not providing an opportunity for dust and dirt to accumulate.

Clean the floor regularly

Cleaning and mopping your kitchen floor on a regular basis will ensure a hygienic place of work. Dirt, grease, stains etc. can build up and accumulate very fast making it a haven for bacteria and even insects to breed and grow.

Wipe and clean the appliances

All the appliances you are using in the kitchen need your special attention for keeping those clean. The stove used for cooking should be cleaned regularly. It tends to accumulate maximum stains and grease. The oven needs a wipe out at least once a week. Keeping your refrigerator clean inside and outside is very important.

Keep the garbage out

Don't let garbage sit in the kitchen for a longer duration. If you are using a garbage disposable unit Keep it thoroughly cleaned. Never let any left over food remain in the unit for a longer time. Keep it turned on after you dump food into it. Otherwise it will cause odors and will be a breeding ground for bacteria-Jose k

Tips to Maintain Dining Table at your Home

Dining room is the one place where you spend quality time with your family and friends when you gather to eat. You can enhance the look of your dining area by selecting a dining set of your choice and preference. Special care maintenance is required to retain its fresh new look for a long time.

Over a period of time, any table will lose its shine and starts looking dull. Food remnants and over usage may make your dining table to look unattractive. But you can retain its glossy finish longer by using proper cleaning techniques. The same cleaning technique cannot be used for all types of table sets.

Glass Dining Tables

A glass table adds style and elegance to any dining area. But it is very delicate and prone to scratches. Even a minute scratch can mar the overall look of the table. Maintaining a glass table requires extra care. You can clean it with plain water using paper towel, glass cleaner, or a cloth. A lint-free cloth and soap water are also ideal for removing dirt, food particles and other substances off the table.

Stuck food particles and fingerprints are common things that spoil the beauty of your dining furniture. Scrubbing the table surface using unsuitable, rough or hard material might cause scratches. Clean it using dilute abrasive cleaners specifically made for glass tables. You can also prepare home-made cleaning solution by mixing one cup of water with one cup rubbing alcohol and one tablespoon vinegar. Wipe the table with this mix to bring the shine back.

Wood Dining Tables

Cleaning a wooden dining table needs an entirely different approach from cleaning a glass one. You can clean it with a wood cleaner or a wood conditioner using a clean cloth. Doing it twice a year will help your dining table retain its glossy finish for long. The use of wood conditioner should be limited to twice a year, while it is important to dust the dining table once a week. You can keep your furniture looking new and shiny all the time with a good furniture polish. Make it a point to clean your table with a damp cloth immediately, in case you spill anything on it - Hemalatha Gangadharan

Microwave Oven Maintenance Tips

The Microwave Oven is a vital component of nearly every home today. It is often under the authority of the lady of the house but used by every family member both young and old. While both you and I have knowledge of many excellent food recipes, it is so important to learn how to take care of this kitchen appliance properly.

Electrical maintenance is most certainly the job of a licensed specialist. A homeowner's review of a few quick and frequent inspection practices will ensure microwave oven maintenance is up kept and secure your investment over a long period of time.

Five things you should never do with a microwave:

1. Never operate the microwave oven empty.

2. Never use a microwave for deep-frying or canning.

3. Never use a microwave oven to heat a baby bottle.

4. Stay alert. Especially while making popcorn due to the huge amount of heat generated which often results in sudden fires.

5. Use a microwave safe bowl or container for cooking and heating.

As a general rule, never use any container that contains metal.

Cleaning the microwave after every use is very important for health and safety. Modern microwaves are equipped with a detachable, rotating glass plate at the base. After each use, the plate should be taken out and cleaned properly. This is important as the residual food particles may get heated and catch fire if not cleaned. When owners do not clean the microwave properly, leftover food particles cause the microwave to work harder and may cause microwave leakage. If your oven is not fitted with a detachable base, wipe out the base with a gentle water and soap mix and dry it perfectly before using. Good microwave cleaners can also be used.

It is important to clean the edges of the door carefully. The edges of the door are a very common area in which food particles get trapped and cause major damage to the microwave door.

According to Kris T King , the author, It is of vital importance to take special care of the microwave oven door. The door is a very integral part of the microwave as it automatically triggers the engine and also protects users from health hazards. Sometimes if the door is damaged, but still closes, the microwave oven might not stop functioning. But you should proactively stop using it and contact a repair professional or the manufacturer for a repair.

DIY Kitchen Makeover Tips for Beginners

We pin DIY photographs on Pinterest and are inspired by the kitchen redos on HGTV. As we stand in the doorway of our own kitchens, we dream about the possibilities. The problem? Large renovations can be an enormous undertaking that often require more tools than a hammer and screwdriver, and more knowledge than dipping a brush into a can of paint. Tearing down walls requires structural knowledge, not to mention electrical and plumbing skills, and many of us lack the know-how. However, maybe our kitchens do not need a complete overhaul, rather we are simply bored with its current look. A few simple budget-friendly tricks can revive kitchens.

A thorough cleaning is one of the most effective, yet free, tips. Clear clutter and wipe down countertops and cabinets. Remove and store seldom-used small appliances from sight. Hide your plastic bottle of detergent under the kitchen sink. Find an interesting catchall for miscellaneous items, like keys and bills, or simply organize them in a drawer. Don't forget to look up and clean light fixtures too.

Declutter your refrigerator door, and then coordinate a select number of decorative magnets in an artistic fashion. Or, remove them altogether and hang a small decorative chalkboard nearby for to-do reminders. Chalkboard projects are easy to make.

Find a decorative bowl or basket currently stored in your cabinet. Place it where your appliances once loitered, and fill it with fresh seasonal fruit or vegetables.

Update walls, doors, or trim with new coordinating or contrasting colors. Paint is cheap, colorful, covers faded and dirt-stained surfaces, and is easy to change. Sponge painting and rag rolling are easy to do and hide discrepancies. Most paint stores even have test samples that can be tinted with your prospective color choices for test patches. Go bold and daring with bright colors, or keep it simple with white.

Hang cooking utensils on a rod behind the stove or on a nearby wall. If there is no wall space, then purchase a flea market object, such as an old crock or interesting vase, to substitute as a caddy.

Simply put new knobs and drawer pulls on your kitchen cabinets. Kitchen knob styles become outdated over time. Be sure to measure and purchase same-size drawer pulls to save from filling old holes and drilling new ones. Note that the diameters of screws in knobs are not necessarily generic either.

Replace your sink faucet. With extended use, minerals found in water often leave stains that cannot be eliminated. More options are available today, like the ever-handy soap dispensers. Note the number of holes in your sink, and replace with a like faucet system.

Fresh herbs and succulents in small pots placed in kitchen windowsills bring life and dimension to the room.

Replacing outdated globes or light fixtures can dramatically enhance the look of your kitchen.

If your kitchen is too small to accommodate a full-sized island, consider a slimmer movable island or utility cart. Think about your needs, including storage and counter space for extra guests. Unfinished and unassembled furniture is usually cheaper - Rita Rowe

Avoid Costly Refrigerator Repairs With DIY Maintenance and Cleaning

Of all the modern-day appliances you rely on in your home, the refrigerator is probably the hardest working. Unlike, say, the dishwasher or washing machine, the refrigerator doesn't just get turned on once in a while and put through a cycle or two. It operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to protect and preserve your food. So, considering the cost of groceries these days, now is the time to protect your fridge with some easy maintenance and cleaning tips for keeping this household workhorse running smoothly.

First, it's not enough to wipe up spills and clean out old food to prevent any lingering odors or mold from developing. At least once a year, you need to give your refrigerator a thorough inspection and cleaning, inside and out, to remove any accumulated dust and dirt buildup, take note of any scratches or defects, and check the electrical connections. It's particularly important to eliminate dust from the condenser coils either behind or underneath your refrigerator, depending on the model you own. This simple act of cleaning your refrigerator's condenser coils with a vacuum or brush can go a long way in avoiding costly refrigerator repair and extending the life and efficiency of this hard-working appliance.

Next, check the refrigerator and freezer doors to make sure the gaskets are clean and well sealed. Even the smallest crack or gap in the gasket could allow warm air in and prevent your refrigerator from maintaining the proper temperature of 35 to 42 degrees. In addition, doors that do not seal tightly could indicate a refrigerator that is out of balance. In that case, use a leveling tool to correct your refrigerator's alignment and make any necessary adjustments to your flooring or to the feet on the bottom of the appliance.

As you examine the interior and exterior of your refrigerator and freezer, make sure to check all knobs such as the thermostat controls and listen for any unusual noises. Uncommon noises coming from your refrigerator are often the first sign of a malfunctioning part, from the evaporator fan motor to the condenser fan to the compressor. Depending on the source of the noise, some of these issues can be as easy to fix as tapping a rattling drip pan. Problems with compressors, water inlet valves, and other more complicated parts, however, are best left to a professional refrigerator repair service.

Caring for the hardest working appliance in your house can be easy when you follow these simple guidelines for refrigerator maintenance and cleaning. So whatever type of refrigerator you own, from a traditional freezer on top to a spacious side-by-side to a newer freezer on the bottom model, take time out for a thorough inspection and review your refrigerator instruction manual for further information from the manufacturer. Not only will it help you safeguard those expensive groceries, it could very well help you avoid costly refrigerator appliance repair and even lengthen the life of your fridge.

One should have the space to maintain the right distance to have all these. In that way, it declutters and gives a sense of space. The kitchen should allow you to move freely and work efficiently.

To keep the kitchen spic and span at all times, the open plan kitchen should have adequate storage to conceal kitchen clutter and piling dishes. Cabinets add much life to a kitchen. So decide what colour you want to have. You can be imaginative while designing the cabinets. To maximise on storage, smart planning is the answer so that you don't waste any space unnecessarily. Selecting a material for your kitchen's flooring requires thoughtful attention to many issues — habits of your family; materials available; aesthetic qualities; the sub-surface of the floor; compatibility with your budget considerations." Vinyl is an alternative flooring apart from traditional flooring for kitchens.

Vinyl flooring comes with anti-skid resistance which prevents a person from slipping or skidding in kitchen. Simple tile designs or borders are generally used. Saraf says, "Most of the customers today use vinyl flooring because it's water-proof, durable, hygienic, low on maintenance and also adds an aesthetic value to your kitchen."

Tips for choosing the best vinyl flooring for your kitchen

-Colours and pattern options available with vinyl flooring are nearly endless.
-Solid and composite vinyl can be combined to create a number of unique, random patterns.
-Vinyl does not get cold in the winter, and is generally soft beneath your feet.
-Printed vinyl tiles and sheets have a clear wear layer that acts as a surface barrier, protecting the floor from stains and spills.
-Vinyl is generally considered to be a highly durable material that, if properly installed and maintained, can last from ten to twenty years.-Times of India

5 Simple Tips for Designing Small Kitchen Spaces

A functional, well-designed kitchen space should have minimal clutter and it should be able to maximize efficiency. If you have a small kitchen, you might find it quite challenging to find the right design that will allow you to maximize the space without cluttering it. Thankfully, with a few design techniques and tips, your small kitchen can still be functional, efficient, and attractive. Here are a few tips:

Add Mirrors: Adding mirrors to your small kitchen space can work like magic. Installing a mirrored backsplash in your small kitchen will provide an illusion of more space. It will open up your kitchen to your living room. The idea is to create an extension of both of these open spaces. If you don't want to use mirrors, you can consider using minimalist cabinets that have a mirror-like effect. This type of cabinets will streamline the kitchen design and pull more light into the small space.

Choose Smaller And Compact Appliances: When you are trying to work with a small kitchen, there is no room for bulky and huge appliances. Instead, you should look for smaller, compact, and space-saving appliances. For instance, you can consider using a refrigerator that is 24 inches deep. You can also place a small microwave under the cabinet and only pull it out when it's time to use it. Doing so will save counter space.

Use The Kitchen Island: You can use the island in the center of your kitchen as storage. This will provide you with a convenient space in your kitchen. You can even use the island as a dining area so you won't need to buy a huge dining table which will only crowd your small kitchen space.

Choose Chairs Without Arms: You should also consider using dining chairs without arms. This type of chair is easier to get in and out of which is very convenient when you don't have enough space. In addition, this type of chair will look clean, minimalistic, and sleek.

Another option is to use backless stools which you can slip under the counter when not in use. This will save space in your kitchen. If possible, choose chairs that blend with the island or with the kitchen walls. This will unify the pieces in the kitchen.

Proper Lighting: Another tip to create an illusion of having a bigger space is through proper lighting. You can add under cabinet lighting or under the counter lighting. Proper lighting in your small kitchen space will make it look more open, pleasing, and less crowded-By

Simple cleaning tips for your MICROWAVE OVEN

It is important to keep your microwave oven clean at all times. An unclean oven can cause bad odours, taints cooking food, and reduce cooking efficiency. There are many recommended ways to clean your microwave oven, in this article  some of simple tips are shared.

Always try to clean spills and spatters from your microwave as soon as they happen. Leaving them until later makes them harder to remove, especially if the oven is used in the mean time.

Three popular and frugal ways to clean the inside of a microwave oven use vinegar, lemon juice, or washing up liquid coupled with the effect of steam.

Please be aware when using these methods of the effects of 'super-heating'. When liquid or granulated materials are heated by a microwave oven they may boil or explode out of their container, potentially causing serious burns. Sometimes even moving the container, for example to remove it, can cause boiling.

Vinegar can be used in a 50/50 solution with water. Place the mixed liquid inside a microwave safe bowl and heat on high for two minutes. Wait for a couple of minutes before opening the microwave oven door, to help steam fill the unit and to allow the solution to cool slightly. When it is safe to do so, dip a sponge in the liquid and use to wipe of excess mess from inside the unit. The food should wipe off quickly and easily with no need for 'elbow grease'. This cheap and easy way to clean your microwave oven also negates the need for harsh chemicals which are not only expensive, but detrimental to the environment.

Lemon juice can be used in the same method as the above vinegar solution, or by using the lemon itself. Some people prefer to use lemons over vinegar due to the smell created by each. An alternative is to cut a lemon in half and place flat sides down on a microwave safe plate. Add a couple of tablespoons of water to the plate. Microwave cook the lemon until it is hot and the inside of the microwave oven is steamed up. Do not open the door straight away, allow the steam time to work into the caked on food. After a few minutes wipe the inside of the oven clean and put the lemon in the bin - it will also help cleanse the smell of the bin.

Washing up liquid can also be used by adding the same amount of washing up liquid to a microwavable bowl of water as you would to an average sink load of washing up. Washing up liquid also leaves a more pleasant scent behind, especially if you are not a fan of citrus. Again, allow steam to build up, wait to cool and clean with a sponge.

After any form of cleaning it may be beneficial to leave the microwave oven door open for a few minutes to allow the inside to dry out. It is always recommended to clean your microwave 1-2 times a month as well as as and when spills occur.
