Having proper illumination, whether at home or in your workplace is critical to the comfort of your home and the productivity of your work space. Here are some unique and interesting ideas for illuminating your most important spaces shared by Lydia Quinn
Skylights
Skylights are a wonderful way to illuminate areas which have no brightness at all, but you don't want to or can't have lights or light switches. Places like hallways, stairways and warehouses can benefit from skylights. In warehouses, in particular, skylights are fairly easy to install but will offer much light in the daytime, helping to decrease lighting costs. Since most warehouses aren't open at night, skylights are a wonderful and Eco-friendly lighting option.
Waterfall
This new kind of lighting gets its name from the way it looks on a wall. LED's are placed behind translucent fabric which is draped on a curtain rod. The result is a cascade of light that filters down the fabric which gives a glowing waterfall effect. This option is great for contemporary designs and interiors.
Kitchen
For your kitchen, try using under cabinet or in drawer lighting from LED's. These handy lights can be installed easily and don't use much electricity at all. Some LED bars can even be installed with stickers or other adhesives, you don't even need a hammer or screwdriver!
Mirrors
Mirrors are not lights, but by placing them in certain areas around your home, you can increase the effect of lights in that area. Try placing mirrors behind a corner chandelier to multiply its lighting effect. You can also place smaller mirrors around lights to amplify the amount of lighting you get from certain lights when the light is on. Mirrors are a great choice since they are low cost, easy to install and require absolutely no cost or maintenance.
LED
LED's are a great way to brighten up the night at home or in a commercial space. Use LED string lights to light up your walkways, paths, garden, patio, windows and doors. Use portable battery powered lights to attach lights to the inside of cupboards, closets, drawers and other places where you need light but can't get it. Solar powered LED lights are a great choice for lighting up any outdoor spot. From around your pool or spa to your sheds, dog houses, dog runs, patio, garden area, raised beds, or just about anywhere else that could use a little glow at night.
