Candles add a sense of calm and beauty to your home. But when something goes wrong and the wax ends up on your carpet or furniture, some of that peacefulness you felt moments ago may be gone. To help you enjoy candles in your home and avoid the unpleasantness of melted wax on your fabrics, I am going to tell you how to melted wax from your fabrics.
If you've hosted a dinner party or simply had candles lit to relax, you may have noticed that some of the melted wax landed on your tablecloth or other fabric near the candle. This isn't a cause for alarm; melted candle wax can easily be removed from the majority of fabrics in your home. The first thing that you will need to do is place the fabric containing the melted was face up on a hard surface. At this point, you should try to remove as much of the wax as possible by gently scraping at the melted candle wax using a butter knife. During this step, you do not want to pull at the fabric, this can cause irreparable damage.
Next, you will need to heat your iron to the warm setting. While your iron is heating, you will need to cover the wax with a paper towel or scrap piece of fabric. You will then need to place the wax covered fabric onto the paper towel with the stain facing down. Now you will need to place another piece of paper towel on the back side of the fabric. Gently place the warm iron over the paper towel. The heat from the iron will soften the wax and transfer it onto the paper towels.
After you have removed as much of the wax as possible using the iron, you should now apply laundry detergent directly onto the stain. Next, you will need to wash the item in the washer at the highest temperature allowed for that particular type of fabric. This should remove any leftover residue that you were unable to remove using the iron.
If you notice that there are still traces of the wax on the fabric, you can mix a solution of two parts water and one part rubbing alcohol. You can then apply this mixture to the wax remaining on the fabric. Let the solution sit for approximately ten minutes and then rinse with cool water - Rick Martis
